New Jersey's last youth crew band (well youth crew rivival band). 90s hardcore that has often been compared to Judge, which is arguably the highest compliment. Playing all of their songs.
What started as a fantasy project from the maestro of the mosh part, aka Brian Ristau aka Clevo became hardcore's biggest band in 1999-2000. Considered to be the pinnacle of Brian's musical career, the band came to a screeching hault when Clevo realized that the producers of the much heralded "Moon Landing" were beginning to keep a stern eye on the highly anticipated "s/t" debut on Revelation. There were fears that the lyrical content was raising eyebrows (see the song "No Way") and the political attention became too much for this band.
Atlanta hardcore. Bridge 9
Formed by Gavin Van Vlack (Side By Side, Absolution and later Die 116 and Pry), Alan Cage (Beyond and later Quicksand), Alex Napack (Pressure Release) and Chaka Harris (later Orange 9mm), Burn set out to create something new and more interesting than the preexisting sound of late 80's New York Hardcore.
Burn released their self-titled debut on Revelation Records in 1990 which today still stands as one of the most innovative, powerful hardcore records. Though the band never officially disbanded, Burn was resurrected in late 2001 with the addition of guitarist Vic DiCara (from Inside Out) and bassist Manny Carrero (from Glassjaw).
Burn is like a forefather, serving as the inspiration to many bands to follow both in and outside of hardcore.
Twitching Tongues has been alienating listeners since 2010. The instantly polarizing band's first album, Sleep Therapy (I Scream Records 2011), turned listeners' heads upside down with it's blend of hardcore and melody. From the sarcasm overload of "Astigmatism", to the ultimate sad-guy anthem of "Insane & Inhumane", the band gathered a fanbase of like-minded individuals who understand their pain. Now Twitching Tongues have unleashed their second beast, In Love There Is No Law (Closed Casket Activities). The album takes their previous sound and whoops it's legs into submission. The hooks have more "hook" and the pits have tripled in size, proven by the tracks "Good Luck...", and "World War V". Twitching Tongues plans to hit every city that will have them, so be prepared in every way possible.
Long Island hardcore. Scared To Death. Lumpy?
Conceived in Iraq, the back of a van hurtling across the desert, Mississippi, and the leaf shrouded seclusion of a Mount Pleasant basement, GIVE has existed in one form or another for close to five years. We played our first show in November of '08, since then we have played many shows in many places. We've had three recording sessions, all with Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, VA.
Richmond's hardest, now on Reaper.
As part of the original Hardcore movement, Maximum Penalty has been and still is, one of the most original hybrids of the New York Hardcore sound. From the band's inception, the founding members have fused different styles such as Hardcore, Metal, Hip-Hop and melody which put MP's unique stamp on the scene. The band started out at the tail end of the first wave of the hardcore movement in the late 80's. They played the infamous hardcore matinee at the now deceased CBGB's with friends and family from the N.Y. scene. From that point the Crossover Metal scene exploded into the 90's with MP's unique brand of Hardcore, along with their peers such as Sick of it all, Killing Time & Agnostic Front.
MP's first release was their "Demo 89" along with the Blackout Records "Where The Wild Things Are" compilation. Soon after that they released the "East Side Story" e.p. and later the full lengths "Independent" and "Superlife". In 2006 the band re-released their classic "Demo 89 / East Side Story e.p." on one disc, finally making the original demo available on CD in its entirety.
In 2008, MP went back into the studio with the intent to capture the original elements of the bands sound and identity. Produced by Dan Korneff, who has worked with artists like (Grammy Nominated) Paramore, Lamb Of God and Ill Nino, the 15 new tracks sound absolutely massive and bring the band to a whole new level.
October 6th, 2009 will see the fruits of MP's labor when Reaper Records unleashes, "Life & Times".
Southern California metallic hardcore unit God’s Hate (featuring members of Twitching Tongues, Skinfather) have premiered the crushing title track off of their upcoming debut LP, Mass Murder, due out February 5th on Closed Casket Activities. Building on the band’s initial Troycore influenced style, Mass Murder takes on new influence from legendary hardcore bands like Merauder and “finally captures the original vision GOD’S HATE set out to achieve, introducing more metallic leads and harmonies than were present on their earlier EPs.”
New Jersey Hardcore.
Build & Destroy
