Full of energy and surprise, wit and subtlety, the quartet Twisted Pine has quickly become one of the most acclaimed young string bands in the Northeast. Audiences across the US and the UK have been drawn to their forthright songwriting, lush harmonies, musical daring, and “charismatic appeal,” to quote Grammy-winner Alison Brown.
In its early days, Twisted Pine hewed pretty close to their bluegrass origins, but over time the band has developed a unique, infectious, joyful noise without limits, bringing the enveloping sound and pop hooks of indie music to an acoustic instrumental setting. While it’s easy to celebrate each of the band members individually, Twisted Pine is also a unit that grooves together. Intricate arrangements of swelling, syncopated rhythm and precise instrumental interplay generate something big and vital: a thick landscape of sound built on an organic acoustic foundation.
Winners of the 2014 Freshgrass band competition and finalists at the 2015 Rockygrass contest, Twisted Pine has played major events from Greyfox to Green River to Glasgow’s Celtic Connections and beyond. “Their live show is already legendary for the band’s unbridled spirit and contagious energy,” says Jim Olsen, president of the innovative folk label Signature Sounds.
Check out Twisted Pine and see why Olsen calls it “the most exciting new roots band to emerge from the New England scene in quite some time.”
Born out of the vibrant college community that is Harrisonburg, Virginia, Strong Water is an energetic, dance-all-night, up and coming Folk/Americana band. What originally started as a duo, swelled to be a six piece before settling on it's now-three dedicated members whose performance is built on strong Male and Female lead vocals supported by harmonies, driving Acoustic/Electric Guitar or the occasional Banjo, well crafted melodic Fiddle lines, and rounded out by tasteful Drums/Percussion, as well as an Upright or Bass Guitar depending on the show. Strong Water's eclectic collection of original songs and a handful of covers range from Bluegrass & Blues, to their personal spin on the Americana and Folk-Rock genres, incorporating sounds and styles from influences such as Noah Gundersen, Mumford and Sons, and The Lumineers.
After large numbers of requests from fans who had enjoyed a previous EP launched in November 2014, Strong Water independently funded, recorded, and released a 14 track Debut LP in April, 2016. Armed with their new record and a newfound sense of direction, Strong Water has been busy booking and playing special events, shows, & festivals throughout VA and traveled as far as Asheville, NC to bring their energetic performance to fans young and old. Their current list of performances include playing with bands such as Judah & The Lion, The Last Bison, Nothin' Fancy, Chamomile & Whiskey, Devon Gilfillian, Lucy Dacus, Will Overman Band, Boy Named Banjo, The Judy Chops, The Dawn Drapes, Erin and the Wildfire, Megan Jean & The Klay Family Band, and many more.
